It has been a while since I mentioned Wattsie in his lyrca but the time has come again. Following on from the mammoth Land’s End to John O’Groats bike ride last year, the Old Farts are getting back into the stretchy stuff for the London to Brighton bike race in the name of charity.
Gary and Chris are taking part in the London to Brighton Bike Ride, forming part of the Maris Pipers team, which is raising money for the British Heart Foundation. The bike ride takes place on 17 June by which time Wattsie assures me that the lyrca will be shiny, the day-glo as bright as ever and the Old Farts raring to go. You can sponsor Gary as he gives the cycling one last big push before he reaches 50 on their Virgin Money Just Giving page.
Everybody at GWA Cars & Finance is getting behind Wattsie (from nice comfortable seats) and we’ve got a few cars on the forecourt that would make perfect support vehicles. We’ve got a 2007 Range Rover Sport 2.7 HSE (automatic and diesel) for £19,995 and a 2006 Mercedes ML320 CDi SE (automatic ) for £15,495. There’s room for plenty of energy drinks and bars, not to mention a bike or two, in both!

We’ve given you our tips on driving in icy conditions and driving in strong winds before, so in light of the recent spring weather (who knows what will be next!), Gary and I have put together some GWA Cars & Finance tips on driving in heavy rain (other than strap a boat and a couple of oars to the roof, just in case!).
• Check your windscreen wipers. If they look brittle, replace them.
• Slow down. Give yourself more time to decelerate in heavy rain.
• Keep your distance. From other cars and especially lorries and buses.
• Be a disciple. Follow paths through water made by others.
• Deep water danger. The deeper the water is, the less control you’ll have.
• Stop. If it gets too heavy and you don’t feel safe, pull over and wait.
One car currently on the GWA Cars & Finance forecourt that is built for navigating a bit of extra water is a 2010 diesel Nissan Navarra Doublecab Tekna (available for £14,995 plus VAT). We’ve also got a special offer on the new Nissan Juke 1.5 DCi Visia, which will keep you higher and drier from £180 per month.

Signs of recession were nowhere to be seen at the inaugural gathering of the Tunbridge Wells First Friday business network held at The Wells Kitchen between 12 and 2 on Friday 4th May.
More than 70 people, representing businesses of all sizes, met to make connections, talk about their businesses and find ways of helping each other.
The network is organised by Knibbs, the IT and telecoms specialist, that has recently opened new offices in Tunbridge Wells.
Managing Director, Tim Knibbs, said: “We wanted to make an immediate contribution to the Tunbridge Wells business community and decided that launching a First Friday business network was an ideal way of doing it.”
The people who attended enjoyed the informal nature of the gathering.
“You just buy yourself a drink and chat to the other people who are here,” explained James Neeter, Sales and Marketing Manager with Knibbs. “First Friday is free and the events are come and go as you please, every month.”
Gavin Fisher, Chief Executive of the Children’s Respite Trust said: “I’m really pleased by the number and quality of businesses that are here. Everybody seems to have come in the mood to network and it’s very easy to strike up new conversations.”
Reasons for attending were varied, from the simply curious to the strategic. Collin Adams of Bibby Financial Services said: “I work for the Hastings office in the group, but I see a vibrant local economy in West Kent and want to get to know more people here to expand my network of contacts.”
We are based out of Hastings, but see a vibrant local economy in West Kent and want to get to know more people here.”
Business confidence was high, despite official statistics showing that the UK as a whole is now back in recession.
“There is no shortage of opportunity to present proposals at the present time,” said Martin Long of Sugar Marketing. “Understandably, businesses want to make sure they are getting value for money, but business owners are looking to the future and doing what they believe they have to do to grow - including investing in their people, their infrastructure and their marketing.”
Tim Knibbs continued: “I am delighted by the turnout, which was generated entirely by LinkedIn and word of mouth. The mood in the room has been excellent and I am looking forward to welcoming even more people every First Friday of every month at The Wells Kitchen.

Peugeot have won the Business Car Magazine survey of the Top 20 fleet brands for eco-effectiveness.
They commented "a very impressive result for the for the French brand, dislodging Toyota for the first time to top Business Car's green guide. A good range to suit every fleet"
The combination of low-co2 diesel, the diesel hybrid and electric models saw Peugeot to the top spot and with the New 208 coming in June with with co2 emissions from 87g/km for it's diesel and 99g/km for the petrol, we aim to keep our position at the top again next year.
If you would like to know more about our range, please contact Chris Brown at Portfield Peugeot on 07824 804256

Now, Gary and I like to be international, albeit largely from the comfort of the GWA Cars & Finance offices in Chichester, and we’ve always got an eye on global affairs, especially when it involves an incredible BMW and amazing Audis, which were among the highlights of the recent Beijing Auto Show.
We took a look at the very futuristic-looking BMW hybrid cars, the BMW i3 and BMW i8, a while ago, and as these models get more and more press coverage, the German manufacturer has come up with something even more sensational: the BMW i8 Concept Spyder. If you can’t wait for this car to enjoy that heady mix of German speed and efficiency, there is a 2007 BMW 335D Auto SE Touring on the GWA forecourt.
Now, the BMW i8 Spyder is undoubtedly a sports car: a two-seater than can do 0-62mph in five seconds and has a top speed of 155mph. The designers have obviously had some fun coming up with this one. Hybrids aren’t exciting enough? Who said that?
BMW was not the only German manufacturer making waves in Beijing. Audi unveiled a number of new cars, including the Audi RS Q3 Concept, the Audi Q3 Jinlong Yufeng Concept and the Audi A6 L-etron Concept. The Audi Q3 Jinlong Yufeng Concept looks the most exciting, and not just because the translation is Audi Golden Dragon in the Wind. This 5-cylinder engine turbocharged compact SUV (top speed 155mph, 0-62mph in 5.5 seconds) certainly appears more than capable of generating a serious draft.
If you want some of that famous Audi power sooner rather than later, we have a 2008 Audi A3 Sport 2.0 TDi Hatch available at GWA Cars & Finance.
To have a chat about buying or leasing a new or used car or van, contact Gary at GWA Cars & Finance on 01243 510 650 or sales@gwacars.com.
Special offers available only to First Friday Premier Members will be coming soon.
